Because the very cosmetic and personal care products these and many other companies make are loaded with compounds believed to cause cancer. It is hard to believe, but its a fact that experts say is becoming increasingly clear: most mainstream cosmetic and personal care products contain at least one hazardous chemical compound, and many contain far more than that. By various estimates, there are between about 5000 and 10000 ingredients currently being used in everything from eyeliner and lipstick to shampoos and deodorants. While many are thought to be perfectly safe, many are not. The National Institute of Occupational Safety, for example, has identified almost 900 personal care chemicals that are toxic in one way or another. Some cause cancer. Others cause hormone disruption. It sounds too good to be true: A residential system that allows people to make fuel from old beer, leftover wine and other waste products and use it to run their vehicles. That’s what inventors of the E-Fuel MicroFueler claim, and there’s support for the idea in government, industry and pop culture. MicroFueler buyers are eligible for a $5000 tax credit. Former LA Laker Shaquille O’Neal is an investor in the system’s distributor. The $10000 E-Fuel MicroFueler consists of a 250-gallon tank for organic feedstock, such as waste wine and beer, and a still that converts it to pure ethanol, or E-Fuel. The still doubles as a fuel pump, which works similarly to those at gas stations. The only waste product is distilled water. “If we give everybody the ability to make their own fuel, you break the oil infrastructure,” said MicroFueler inventor Tom Quinn, a Silicon Valley entrepreneur who also developed the motion-control system for the Nintendo Wii gaming system, a version of which is used in his new micro-refinery. “Three years ago, I looked at where the world was going, and energy caught my eye,” said Quinn, chief executive of E-Fuel Corp. in Los Gatos. “As a world, we had no replacement fuel for gasoline, and that led me to alternative fuels such as ethanol.” The problem with ethanol, Quinn said, was energy inefficiency — not only in the carbon cost of growing, harvesting and transporting the corn that was used to make it, but also in the distillation process that turned it …

THE DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is an exhaust filter designed to reduce PM (Particle Matter -soot/black smoke) from the environment. This is not green house gas, it is fine dust that settles to the ground. The DPF is a system consisting of: A filter and a complex monitoring and maintenance system, to keep the filter operating correctly. The filter itself is made of a special catalyst which, the exhaust from the engine is forced thru, before leaving the tail pipe. The filter collects PM. As the PM accumulates exhaust pressure builds up behind the filter. The truck computer monitors the pressure, and when it determines the filter is clogged it injects raw diesel fuel into the exhaust system. Which ignites in the filter and re-gens (burn’s), the PM out. This re-gen cleaning cycle happens from every 100-300 miles and lasts from 15-45 min. This re-gen cleaning cycle, only happens when vehicle is at speeds above 45 mph. LONG TERM EFFECTS It reduces engine power because of the restriction in the exhaust caused by the filter. Reduced fuel economy, because of lower engine performance, and wasted fuel used in re-gen. Increased wear and tear caused by soot backing up into the turbo and EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) and diesel in the oil. During re-gen fuel is injected into the engine during the exhaust stroke. Small amounts of this fuel leaks past the piston and into the engine oil, thus dilutes the oil, which reduces the oil’s ability to lubricate the engine properly, causing …
